Rovers

For young people between 18 - 25 years old

What to expect from Rover Scouts

Rovers are the adult section of the movement with members being between the age of 18 and 26. At this time, it is envisioned that they will move into Leadership roles to support the other sections within the Group.

The Rover section is focused on young adults who expected to be almost completely autonomous in the function of their Crew. Events, activities and programming are all developed and organised by the Rovers. Because of their age, they are more mobile so activities can certainly take them further afield.

They must still work within the guidelines of the Scouts Association, but this guidance comes in the form of a Rover Advisor. The role of the Rover Advisor is to advise!

The Rovers have a Red Record Book that can record the experiences they have during their time as a Rover. There are badges that can be achieved across a broad range of requirements that best suit their own abilities. The pinnacle achievement for the Rover section is the BP Award.

Major Events for Rover Scouts

The official event for Rovers is called a Moot. It occurs every three years with the last one being held in Western Australia in January 2014. The format for these Moots is very similar to a Venture with an expedition taking place before all participants return to the home base of the event for 5 days of on and offsite activities.

As with Venturers, Rovers can participate in any National and International events that are occurring. Many Rovers take more of a service role in these events and can often be seen preparing activity bases or providing service support for events such as Kangarees, Cuborees or Jamborees.

Meeting Structure

The 2 hour meetings are determined as a crew and usually structured as follows:

  • Session begins
  • Activities – Themes, self directed
  • Session ends
