Lardner Park, Drouin
March 18 & 19, 2016

Every two years the Victorian Joey section puts on an enormous event for Joey Scouts aged between six and eight. Kangaree goes for around 24 hours with over 700 Joey Scouts arriving from all over the state arriving on Saturday to begin the fun. With nearly 350 Leader and another 150 service Leaders, Rovers and Venturers along to help, it is busy!!

After setting up beds in two huge tin sheds, 400 to a hall, we head off to lunch and get ready for the afternoon of activities. There are 6 activity bases to work through – three Saturday afternoon, and three for Sunday morning. All the Joey Scouts try to get to as many of the activities within the bases as possible, and the Leaders join in where they can.

Any down time can be spent in the penny arcade, or as we did, we helped the guys on the main stage check that the music could be danced to.

After dinner was a great performance before going off to bed preparing for Sunday morning.

Brekkie, and then into it again! Happy birthday Eagle!! On Sunday morning we were very lucky to meet up with the States Chief Scout – Shane Jacobson! Lots of photos, very happy campers! Our Joeys learnt about Cubs in the Try Cubbing activity and earned a badge for it! Wahoo!

It was back on the bus at around 1:00 for the trip home. Talk about a whirlwind!

We did try and reduce the pain by driving to Broadford on the Friday night where we stayed in the Broadford Community Centre. It was a great way to make it so that the Joey Scouts arrived at Kangaree ready to get going rather than wanting to sleep!
